Halloween Energy

Halloween Energy

Halloween almost

Are you ready to point lace decor for Halloween? I have been creating for a while ago Halloween patterns.

My little girl is Halloween crazy and so every year, we try something fun out. From crazy costumes to accessories and home decor.

This year she will be Wednesdays from the Addams Family…and so we play with collars and hangman’s ropes….But the classic ghost is still a must, so here is a pattern available.

I remember when she picked the color combo…. an exciting time, coz she got to help out. I did a classic design First and then we went wild…

What do you prefer? Truly, I can’t make up my mind…

Also when it comes to Halloween, I like to add leaves, and here is one motive that turned out ok. To make it more interesting, I created a combo of crochet and Romanian Lace.

You can find the pattern in the store or on Etsy store HERE. Let me know, what would you like to create, a ghost or a leaf.

Also if you like to be updated with specific news from us, you can pick between Romanian Lace, Art or Reiki. Check out Bottom of page!

Orchid Pattern….and more!

Orchid Pattern….and more!

I love orchids… so there was no other way around as creating Romanian Point Lace pattern out of it. There is no particular, orchid that I love more, I find them all insanely gorgeous.

So I made a few orchid designs, that not only look great on its own but fantastic as a group. You can create a fabulous unique Point lace doily out of it and so much more!

Since the baby is born, I had no extra time to devote to the orchids and create a full doily out of it, but I am sure you can with the help of these patterns!

There is a red one, a blue and a dusty pink that has an actual doily pattern to it! I am sure you will love it!

You can find them all in the shop section HERE  Happy Shopping! Enjoy!

I enjoyed creating them all, but I can’t make up my mind, which one is my favorite! What orchid is your favorite and why?

I love them all in a way but what I liked the most, was working with this amazing thread by Romanofir. If you want to try this type of thread, check it out HERE !

This thread is soft, silky but holds its power! It’s organic and comes from a very long tradition of

Drop a comment below and let me know!

PS: Call me crazy but I smudged the crochet hook before starting each pattern and also I smudged each pattern after I was done working on it! The pattern got it’s energy back- it takes a lot of energy working on the pattern!

Romanian Point Lace Trends

Romanian Point Lace Trends

When you think about an antique lace making technique like Crochet, Irish Lace, Battenburg, etc…. it is very important to not only keep the craft going and to pass it on. It is crucial to evolve and update it, including different techniques, threads, colours, volume , shape and sizes as well as purpose and function of the lace.

Irish Crochet has deep roots in using fine hooks and ecru, beige, white and cream threads but a lot has change from its humble beginning. Colours popped in, different thread types and hook sizes changed. Beads have been introduce as well as transforming shapes. The traditional Irish lace is still very popular and strong but modern Irish lace is catching up more and more….

If you want to know more about traditional Irish Crochet lace , find out more here from Larisa Chilton an amazing Irish Crochet teacher and maker. She  will be able to help you out, guide you and teach you.

When it comes to  Romanian Point Lace its a bit different. The traditional Romanian Point Lace is very stubborn, or at least most Romanian Point Lace makers. From personal experience I have seen that they can’t seem to understand that this lace as beautiful as it is needs not only to breath and extend it needs to be seen and it will not be seen if we do not change our minds on the subject. We as lace makers need to be open minded to introducing colours… and it finally happens a bit, – ( Fabulous to see HURRA!) but most Romanian Point Lace makers still produce the same pattern in the shape design and pattern again and again and placing it in the same spot- the furniture! Well this is not enough anymore!

In the image above you can see how traditional Romanian Point Lace is used. This is a traditional design in colour, shape, size, function. Now you can do way more with this…. Smaller pieces like the image below, can be used as funky place mats.

Now the next step how RPL got its  transformation, was when dye was introduced. Like in this image below. Natural dye like here – Turmeric

After natural dye,  even though it was not proper! Coloured thread was introduced by the early 2000.

I am trying to introduce into this tight world of Romanian Point Lace a new way of lace making that can maybe open the way for a new generation of lace makers. This new generation might be interested in Romanian Point Lace in a traditional and new way. It is important that we keep ancient craft alive but we need to make it attractive to younger people today. They will not look twice if the lace is a doily… sadly this is the truth and not many can face it.

So this is what I am rooting for… make lace , keep an ancient craft like  Romanian Point Lace alive BUT wearable,  make it fashionable. And yes, I am aware that might not be every bodies cup of tea, but c’est la vie!

I am introducing colours, 3D , volume, and make it wearable. Put it to a good use and take your lace for a walk.

Not only that the pieces are wearable, they are large, bold and make a statement, so is the idea behind Romanian Point Lace making a statement.

Please let me know how you feel about!

Where do you see the trends going when it comes to Romanian Point Lace?

Lorena

A mystery of crochet….

A mystery of crochet….

Since clothing exited handmade clothes is what made us human and special. The art of crochet, knit , lace making, etc….. was developed and explored on all parts of the world. From the Andes, to the Himalaya, from the Vikings to Aboriginal lifestyle, they all had a form of handmade couture……

Designers like Oscar de la Renta, Jean Paul GaultierDoris Chan, Vashti Braha, etc…. build a brand and a lifestyle around the art of handmade fashion…

The tool that makes this fashion possible is the crochet hook. Crochet means hook. Have you heard of Penelope? This was one of the  first Crochet magazines, in the 19th century. The first crochet pattern was printed in 1824. And yes, before that all the crochet, designs, were past on from mother to daughter, from generation to generation…..The first hook, was more like a tambour tool.  Tambour is French for DRUM

But was it really invented in Europe? Truly we are not sure…. because there was no evidence that before the 1700 crochet part of fashion.

18th century Scandinavia, cold,  dark and wet, was more focusing on fur, and bones. No hooks were back then but bone needles were quite common.

Maybe we have to look towards the Andes… Peru, Chili,…… or even Egypt. The first hooks have been discovered 300BC and was mostly for shawls. In Egypt was invented using a hook type bone needle the coptic stitch. It is still used today to bind books, by hand. This stitch, gives  it more a knitted look.

The coptic stitch was known as naalbinding and from there is developed into crochet….. Loops and hooks developed into something else….

From here a new portal opens… a world of handmade is born and is spread ed like fire.

Eastern Europe was great with lace and embroidery but crochet was still far away…. Turkish crochet was special and developed into a path of its own. Due to wars and the Ottonman Empire spreading like smoke in a room, many different needlepoint, tambour, crochet techniques, etc…. came together like a melting pot. Many new techniques were invented. …..

Crochet had a strong point in the Edwardian Era as well in the Victorian Area. Due to the World Wars, not many pattern have been published. Crochet came back strong in the late 50s, 60s, and 70s of course with the famous Granny Square….

In the 80s and 90s crochet was not very popular but later on it made a slide comeback. Crochet developed into 3D, into art happenings. Despite all that, crochet stayed it fashion and was always part of Haute Couture.

I am happy to see that crochet is on the stage again… 2017 and it;s still on, in style, back to life and dressing new generations of women and girls.

My journey into the world of crochet, started early at the age of 7 and I was diving into the world of hooks and threads guided by my grandmother and mother. Of course I will pass it on….

How did you learned to crochet?
