And it all started with her… the founder and genius of CHANEL, COCO CHANEL. After her, for decades KARL…. Like Chanel, as she was known as COCO, he was simply called KARL. Two unique and original people who truly changed the world and left us amazed and happy.
Now the Karl Otto Lagerfeld, passed, all we have left are his creations, that were so unique, controversial, like his runway shows and of course his quotes…. It got to a point where a new word was invented to describe his style , and opinions- KARLISM!
Yes, google it, and it will come up! I always admired his fashion and personal style. A true artist, that influenced my opinion in art and fashion of course. HIs style was even an excuse not to clean up my desk as a kid.
He had a lot to say, a man who kept for himself, in a world of art, books, and photography. I never illustrated or sketched his fashion, because simply I believed I was not worthy of this, simply because he did a fantastic job in sketch and product. But with that said I was a huge fan of his designs. He dived deep into the world of each collection he was inspired by and needed total privacy and solitude to create.
I always illustrated CHANEL perfumes and accessories…. It was and is my homage not only for COCO but also for KARL.
But now what comes next for the house of CHANEL? The new creative director is the Right Hand of the Maestro Virginie Viard. Click HERE to find more out about her! You might know that I studied fashion design and so talking and learning about designers was a must. Not only that you learn to know about different styles and building a brand, you discover what designer you like or not and create a list in your head.
I love hand made fashion and no other continent can reach SOUTH AMERICA when it comes to lace, and crochet fashion so here are my top five fashion designer from South America!
Art of the day… is inspired by the wonderful and original Coco Chanel…. She was not only a driving force in the feminine movement and a role model for many women in Europe and later on around the world, she was a true hero fighting a male dominated arena , the so called fashion world. Designers, like Charles Worth, did not believe in her as well as others.
Here at Ink & Lace we like to get inspired by icons like her and like to give her signature look a revive and honour her with a Stylish Print.

She truly took a different approach when it comes to fashion. She tried the sewing machines, and still discovered that true “Handmade” is the key to a high quality garment.Sewing machines were put away and it was back to hand stitching. Quality and determination made her clothes stand out as well as a unique style and cut.
To this day the house of Chanel is still working under this motto.
Coco introduced a simple feminine line, that made an impact back then and now of course. Minimalism, and elegance in one….. splendid combo if you ask me.
Black, straight cut suits and the signature pearls became her signature style as well as look for the Chanel House. Tweet and class are today associated with Chanel.
Coco was also the first one to actually create a logo for her brand. Two Cs embracing each other…. A desired brand and a so copied one as well.
And speaking for COCO…. her Personality was truly unique and funky!
